Wedding Flowers by Color: A Guide to My Favorite Blooms for Every Palette

When couples start planning their wedding flowers, one of the first questions we often hear is: “These are my colors , can you match this color with the flowers?” It’s completely natural—you have a vision for your day, and the colors you’ve chosen set the tone. But here’s the secret: Mother Nature doesn’t work in Pantone swatches or paint-by-numbers palettes.

Instead, blooms come in shades and ranges of color, shifting slightly depending on the week, the farm, the season and even the weather. That’s part of their beauty! At The Hidden Garden, we always encourage couples to think of color families rather than one exact shade. If you love lavender, we’ll design with that spectrum—but if hellebores in a dreamy dusty purple appears at the flower market that week, we’d love to surprise you with them.

When you leave a little wiggle room for nature, you open the door to more texture, variety, and wow-factor in your arrangements. Below, I’m sharing some of my favorite wedding flowers by color, complete with notes on the specific varieties I adore most.  Just note some of their availability is dependant on season of course :)

White & Ivory Wedding Flowers

White flowers are timeless, elegant, and versatile. They pair with every palette and create a soft, romantic foundation for bouquets and arrangements.

  • Roses – I love Playa Blancas (they open wide and beautifully), Vendellas (soft ivory), Pollo (a creamy warm tone), and Tibet (crisp, true white).

  • Spray Roses – White Mojaleka spray roses add delicate clusters and texture.

  • Ranunculus – Their fluttery, layered petals add romance and softness.

  • Lisianthus – Ruffled blooms that move gracefully in arrangements.

  • Hydrangea – Perfect for lush, voluminous bases.

  • Lysmachia – Adds a little wild, trailing flair to bouquets.

  • Lily of the Valley – A classic bridal flower, dainty and elegant.

Pro tip: White-on-white bouquets photograph beautifully, especially when you mix different textures and shapes within the same color family.

Blush, Champagne & Soft Pink Wedding Flowers

Blush, Champange or Soft Pink  is a wedding classic—soft, romantic, and endlessly versatile.

  • Quicksand Roses – A blush-beige rose that layers well with whites and ivories.

  • Secret Roses – Once reflexed, they open up as wide as a hand—absolutely breathtaking. Love these for open roses on a napkin setting!

  • Spray Roses – Pink Majolika, with their clustered petals, add depth. A garden spray roses is also stunning for extra depth and texture.

  • Peonies – Nothing says romance like a blush peony in full bloom.  Sarah Bernhardt is one of our all time favorites!

  • Hellebores – Subtle shades that add depth and texture. You can even find some “doubles” in April

  • Sweet Peas – Japanese sweet peas are particularly elegant and fragrant.

  • Hydrangea – Dreamy, fluffy clusters that soften any bouquet.

Pink Raspberry & Fuchsia Wedding Flowers

Bold pinks bring energy and joy, perfect for couples who want a vibrant, lively look.

  • Hot Pink Roses – Pink Floyd and Baronesse are striking, saturated shades.

  • Ranunculus – Their lively movement adds playfulness.

  • Hydrangea – From raspberry to deep fuchsia, hydrangea makes a big statement.

  • Bougainvillea – Best displayed as a plant for ceremonies, since the cut blooms don’t last long, but I love their bold presence.

  • Vanda Orchids – Bright raspberry tones, large blooms, and incredible longevity.

  • Dahlias – Raspberry dahlias with their tight, textured petals add richness.

Lavender & Purple Wedding Flowers

Lavender flowers are dreamy, romantic, and often a little unexpected.

  • Ocean Song Roses – Soft lavender roses that feel elegant and timeless.

  • Amnesia Roses – Dusty mauve with vintage charm.

  • Clematis – Graceful, star-shaped blooms.

  • Hellebores – One of my absolute favorites for their depth and natural movement.

  • Lisianthus – Beautiful fillers in muted lavender.

  • Hydrangea – From Holland, they arrive in rich purples to pale lavenders, and even variegated shades. Locally grown antique hydrangea brings an incredible variance of tones too.

  • Vanda Orchids – Stunning large blooms in everything from soft lavender to deep purple.

Yellow & Golden Wedding Flowers

Yellow blooms bring happiness and warmth—perfect for summer weddings or couples who want a cheerful vibe.  Little secret, I had an all yellow wedding :) just makes me so happy!

  • Garden Roses – Catalina (butter yellow) and Turtle (soft golden tones).  Hard to find but Golden Celebration garden roses are a perfect mustard yellow with the best scent!

  • Butterfly Ranunculus – Soft, airy, and sweet.

  • Calla Lilies – Sleek, elegant, and timeless.

  • Chamomile – Tiny pops of sunny yellow, whimsical and natural.

  • Lisianthus – The butter-toned variety adds subtle charm.

Peach & Coral Wedding Flowers

Warm, glowing, and endlessly flattering, peach and coral flowers create a romantic yet lively look.  Coral is a hard color in blooms so this is one that we always lean into “Shades” when requested

  • Coral Expression Roses – Ruffled petals that open wide.

  • Saga Roses – A gorgeous true coral tone.

  • Butterfly or Regular Ranunclus in Peach - just love them both!

  • Coral Charm Peonies – One of my all-time favorites. They open in vibrant coral tones and gradually shift to softer peach as they age—a magical transformation.

Red & Burgundy Wedding Flowers

Red and burgundy are dramatic, passionate, and perfect for fall and winter weddings.

  • Roses – Hearts roses with their romantic ruffles, and Freedom roses for that perfect, true red.

  • Spray Roses – Red Rubicon with its velvety finish.

  • Dahlias – Burgundy dinner-plate dahlias bring drama and depth.

  • Scabiosa – Dark burgundy for a moody, textural accent.

  • Amaranthus – Cascading strands in burgundy add movement and romance.

Greenery & Accent Foliage

Greenery is what frames the flowers, adding shape, depth, and a natural flow. I always remind couples that foliage is just as important as blooms—it’s what gives arrangements their architecture.

  • Italian Ruscus – Elegant and trailing.

  • Eucalyptus – Soft silver-green tones that pair beautifully with blush and ivory.

  • Olive Branches – Classic, timeless greenery.

  • Herbs (Rosemary, Mint) – Fragrant and unique accents.

  • Southern Smilax – Seasonal, but unmatched for draping and movement.

  • Green Amaranthus – Apple-green cascading strands for fresh texture.

  • Pokeweed – Incredible for adding movement and unexpected interest.

  • Camellia or Gardenia Leaves – Bold, glossy greens that add richness and depth.

Final Thoughts on Choosing Wedding Flowers by Color

When it comes to wedding flowers, my best advice is this: don’t get stuck on one exact shade. Think of color ranges and families instead. This flexibility not only ensures your flowers look fresh and alive, it also allows us to include nature’s little surprises—the antique hydrangea that comes in a unique shade, the hellebores that bloom at just the right moment, or the peony that shifts from coral to blush as it opens.

At The Hidden Garden, we love guiding couples through this journey—helping them discover new blooms, celebrate seasonal surprises, and create floral designs that feel both timeless and uniquely theirs.
